Get the Look: An Accent Nail

This great trend has been the subject of discussion  since celebrities began wearing it on the red carpet about a year ago. Since this trend began I've been loving it and wearing my nails in this style regularly. An accent nail can be on any nail- it doesn't have to be on your ring finger. The purpose of an accent nail is to pull together a nail theme or an outfit. It gives a pop of color or sparkle to manicure and is an excellent way to individualize your nails. An accent nail can be done in a glitter or metallic as shown in the picture above, but it can also be a sold color or a pattern.
To get this look, just paint four of your nails on each hand with your neutral polish. This nail color doesn't necessarily need to be a classic color and you can use any two colors  that compliment each other for this look. Then, get your other color and apply it. Make sure that you apply enough of both colors, especially if you are using a glitter polish for your accent nail. Let your nails set before applying the top coat and make sure that they are completely dry before doing anything else. I hope you have fun with this idea and enjoy putting your own spin on accent nails!

How to Paint Your Nails Perfectly

The first thing that is necessary to achieving perfect nails is a quality polish. You want to make sure before you begin painting your nails that your polish is thick and creamy, but that it isn't sticky because if the consistency of the polish is too thick then it will be very hard to paint your nails. I also recommend  painting your thumb nails last so that if you accidentally get any nail polish on your cuticles you can use them to get it off before the polish dries. You want to make sure that you don't get any nail polish on your cuticles because if you do it won't look professionally done and will be more likely to chip.
When you are painting your nails you should put one drop of polish near your cuticle in the the middle of your nail. Then you should drag the polish along one side of the nail leaving a little space between the nail and cuticle on the sides. Next you should drag the polish across the other side of the nail. Make your final stroke down the middle of the nail. Wait for your nails to set before applying the top coat and make sure that your nails are set or dry before doing anything that might smudge them.  Now you are on your way to painting professional-looking nails in the comfort of your own home. Good luck and have fun!

Sephora Nail Appliques

Here are some great nail appliques from Sephora:

How To: Black French Manicure

A black french manicure is a great way to show off a more classic style and giving your look a modern, but sophisticated look. To complete this manicure you will need a super shiny black polish, a matte top cat, a shiny top coat and a shiny black nail art nail polish. Before beginning you should make sure that your nails are clean and push back your cuticles. Make sure that there are no traces of nail polish on your nails and set up all of your materials in an organized manner. Make sure that your nails are filed or cut to the desired length and if you cannot paint the hand that you write with you should ask a friend to help you with the last step of this manicure. So, Lets begin!

First paint your nails black and wait for them to fully dry before applying the matte top coat. Once the top coat is dry use your  nail art brush to paint on the tips of your nails. I recommend having a friend do do the tips of the hand that you write with and that you make sure that you allow about an hour before doing any activity that could mess up your nails, if possible. This is a great style that isn't very expensive, but will gives your nails a professional, chic look. If you have a top coat that is strictly for nail art it would be great to use that to give your nails some extra shine. Hopefully this helps you and you will come to love this idea as much as I do.
